Hello everyone, we hope you’re all looking forward to the summer, whatever your plans. Before you switch the laptop for your summer reading, we wanted to check in with a couple of updates.

2021 was an intense year to say the least. As a result, B3 have now developed entirely new, digital-led models for our creative accelerator and mentoring programmes.

In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, over the past 15 months we’ve been super busy working on some really exciting and influential programmes here at B3. Here’s a bit about what we’ve been up to.

The last few months have been an odd and trying time for everyone - the B3 Media team are hoping everyone’s safe and well! We’re still doing our best to support our network during these times through offering advice, resources and conversations.

Earlier this year, we launched Creative Catalyst, our newest programme partnered with TalentLab to help young emerging BAME creatives who want to break out into film, storytelling, VR and cross-media platforms. It was a highly successful endeavour with great feedback from our partners and our participants are now empowered and inspired to tell their stories.

In response to the increasing concerns relating to the spread of COVID-19 and in order to protect the health and well-being of our team, collaborators, participants and volunteers, the B3 Media team have reviewed our activities.

This year B3 Media co-produced and co-curated ‘The Strike at Imperial Typewriters’ with Divya Ghelani (writer/ researcher).

The inspiration for our latest project was the story of how, in May 1974, migrant workers at Leicester’s Imperial Typewriter factor discovered their workmates earned more than them simply because they were white. Some put up with this discrimination. But a group of 39 staff, mostly South Asian women, decided to act. They went on strike and were soon joined by hundreds of others who also demanded equality.

We had our annual showcase on 12 November 2019 to celebrate and showcase this year’s finalists!
