B3 TALENTLAB: ARTIST JOURNEYS
Join B3 Media at Encounters as we talk Artist Development Opportunities through B3’s TalentLab. We’ll be discussing how to find your voice around stories that matter with filmmakers Sami Abusamra (‘Our Father’), Riffy Ahmed (‘Afloat’), and Dean Leon Anderson (‘Class 15’). Hosted by B3 Media Founder/ Creative Producer Marc Boothe, this will be followed by an informal Advice, Pitching, and Feedback session in the café/bar area.
What is B3 TalentLab?
TalentLab is a bespoke talent development programme for Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) creatives working in film and across multiple platforms (digital storytelling, photography, theatre, spoken word, music and dance). For the past five years, TalentLab has been reaching out to writers, directors, creative producers, artists, digital artists and media creators, helping them to re-assess their professional practice, improve their skills, and give them the confidence and contacts to push their careers and projects to the next level. We want to help develop YOU as a creative talent, and YOUR PROJECT as a proposition.
Riffy works across the Visual Arts. She has directed short films, created video installations, music videos, and produced commercial online content. C4, London Film Festival, the ICA and Arte Creative have all showcased her work. Riffy’s art collective, SPECULAR, works with multidisciplinary artists and musicians with roots across the Arabic diasporas. She is currently the Hospital Club Foundation’s Emerging Creative for Film and TV 2016/17. Her work has been screened and exhibited at various festivals and platforms such as Channel 4, Arte Creative, London Film Festival, ICA, INtransit/ Nour Arts Festival and Saatchi Gallery. Riffy will be speaking about the making of ‘Afloat’, her currentshort film work-in-progress.
Sami is a Writer, Director, and Filmmaker specializing in comedy. He recently co-established the Comedy Production Company ‘Mister Tibbs’, which focuses on creating content for brands and broadcasters. Sami was selected for the Directors UK ‘ALEXA Challenge’ competition (2016/17) as well as B3’s Talentlab. Sami will show clips from his short film ‘Our Father’, which is being developed into a feature film. He will speak about his artist’s journey.

Nosa is a Writer, Director, and ‘Narrative Experience’ Designer skilled at Multi-Platform Storytelling. She has exhibited at The British Film Institute and at Picturehouse Central. Nosa is an alumnus of The BRIT School and most recently The National Film and Television School, where she received prestigious scholarships from BAFTA, SKY TV, and The Royal Television Society. As ayoung writer, Nosa also wrote for Soho Theatre.
Nosa managed YouTube channels for Little Dot Studios and worked as a Digital Creative for Disney. She has just been picked to be 1 of 50 UK/IRE creators making bespoke content for Vodafone’s new youth phone brand Voxi.
Nosa is currently pitching her multiplatform series ‘The Grind’. It was selected for LA Webfest, Underwire Festival, and East End Film Festival. She is also producing ‘This Young Moment’, an immersive social media scripted drama series set in real time.
Dean Leon Anderson is a London-born Writer/Director. He is an alumnus of the University of Greenwich. Mentored by BAFTA-nominated film director Yann Demange (’71), Dean has premiered his work twice at the London Short Film Festival and showcased at many other prestigious festivals too. An all-round filmmaking talent, Dean writes, directs, produces and edits. He was part of B3 Media TalentLab 2017 cohort during which he made his short film ‘Class 15’, which is now being developed into a feature. The film was commissioned and funded by Creative Skillset through B3 and stars Sharon Duncan-Brewster (‘Top Boy’, ‘Bad Girls’, ‘Star Wars Rogue One’). ‘Class 15’ premiered at Encounters Film Festival and Urbanworld Film Festival US in 2016
