Gambiarra Lab - Rio based artists reinvent discarded objects in creative ways!

Gambiarra Lab brought together 14 amazing artists from different disciplines and provided them with the mentorship and new technologies needed to reinvent found objects to be showcased as part of Festival Multiplicidade at Oi Futuro, Rio De Janeiro

The artists utitlised music, moving image, spoken word, performing arts and more with outstanding results! The final showcase was met with a buzz of enthusiasm as the audience participated in the performance by playing with the created instruments. The event was also streamed live online via our dedicated website bringing a global audience in to the fold! We’ll have a short video soon of the exciting process behind the Gambiarra Lab.

Curator Marc Boothe, Creative Director of B3 Media, first had the idea for the Gambiarra Lab while working on the Creativelab programme: a new project that brings together academics, artists and creative practitioners from Brazil and the UK to initiate and collaborate on creative projects that directly address urgent social challenges. Over the last four-months, B3 Media has expanded on the idea of Gambiarra to form a unique collaboration with the support of local producers Silvia Leal, Geisa Lino and Clara Sacco and a network of Rio based mentors who include: SIRI (leading musician/ sound artist), Ricardo Palmieri (visual and digital artist), and Rafael Diniz (technologist).

The project was delivered through a network of partner art organisations and community spaces: Redes da Maré, Observatório de Favelas, Olabi Makerspace, Festival Multiplicidade, Spectaculu School of art and technology, B3 Media (UK) and People’s Palace Projects (PPP).
